These are the short walks that took place in 2024
Jan Walk. This month 11 of us walked from Crediton Station Car Park along the road to Fordton Cross where we turned left and headed to the Golf Club. We then had coffee and cake and lots of chat before returning across the golf course. The weather was kind, we even had some sunshine.
Feb Walk. Despite a slow drizzle, seven hardy souls completed February's walk. We met at Haven Banks in Exeter then walked along the river EXE before crossing the river at Salmonpool Park, and returning to Exeter along the other side of the river. We finished our walk with coffee at the Quayside Cafe. The highlight of the walk was seeing three little egrets on the marshes, and we all felt most virtuous in completing the walk.
March Walk. An intrepid group of 9 walkers set out for March’s walk. We feared for rain. In fact it was mostly sunny, but very muddy. We walked from Crediton Station to Salmonhutch along quiet roads, returning along the footpath by the river. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk although conditions underfoot made it rather harder than anticipated. Coffee at the station cafe was definitely deserved. See brave walkers to the side.
June Walk. June's walk was in Newton St Cyres. This was a short and very pleasant walk of about 2 miles. We walked around the Arboretum, and then popped in to look at the church before repairing for coffee at my house.
August walk. On the 31st July we met in Crediton Town Square at 10 am and then walked towards Downes via East Street and Downeshead Lane. There was a bit of a hill to reach the ridge, but it was lovely and shady and so not so bad. The walk along the ridge had superb views across to Dartmoor. We descended to cross the A377 at Tescos before returning to the centre of Crediton via the station and Dean Street. We finished with coffee in the Square. Although the day was hot, 12 intrepid walkers made the trip and an enjoyable time was had by all.
September walk. Despite poor weather, five brave souls set out from Crediton Station on Wednesday 25th September. We walked through Fordton, taking a left turn towards the Golf Club. Here we stopped for coffee and a chat before returning over the Golf Course to the station. This is a short but favourite walk, and we only got a little wet at the end.
