This is a record of visits during 2025
September meal Fingle Bridge Inn: This time we revisited the Fingle Bridge inn, ok it is a bit of a hair raising drive to get there down the narrow lanes but once there we were rewarded with a very good and filling meal from the pub, with great service from the staff. Our numbers were a little lower than usual due to sudden commitments from 6 of our members forcing them to cancel their attendance. The others of us not only had a good and pleasant time in the pub but because the September day turned out very fine and warm most of us enjoyed a wander along the river either before or after the meal.
August Meal Fishermans cott: for this meal we revisited the Fishermans Cott a pub we have visited many times in the past, as before the meal provided was good with good service from the friendly staff. All members had a good time and as the day was quite good several of us spent time later in the garden overlooking the river at this beautiful place.
July Meal Thorverton Arms This was our second visit to this pub for a meal following a successful one by the Sunday Lunch Group earlier. Once again the pub served us very well indeed. 18 members attended with the garlic mushrooms being a favorite starter, the mains varied from ham eggs and chips through Garlic Parmison + Mushrooms to the Yorkie wrap ( choice of Beef, Pork or Turkey) The wrap was of such a size that almost all members having it ended up with dogy bags to take home.
June Meal Roadford Lake This meal was a little different as we decided to arrange it at Roadford lake, a resevoir and cafe about 20 miles from Crediton, giving our members a chance to combine a walk in the summer sun around the lake with a simple meal at the cafe to follow. Regretfully only 5 members took up the opportunity and all enjoyed a good day out with some exercise in the pleasant surroundings of the lake and a light meal to follow.
May Meal: Devonshire dumpling : Once again this popular venu for our friday lunches came up trumps. 17 of our members attended and were treated to a good selection of meals by the always able staff at the pub. Once again the meal selection was quite varied ranging from Chicken Fajitas (spicy and hot) through Venison Casserole to Belly of pork.
The forth Meal was held atThe New Inn Sampford Courtney Again one of our regular pubs that we visit in the year. 15 members attended and were rewarded with a selection of both various mains and deserts. The mains ranged from Fish and Chips, Home made Pies, Ham Hocks, Pork ribs and home made burgers. The sweets on offer ranged between Cheesecake , Lemon Possett and a selection of ice cream with various coffees to finish. The meal went well.
The Third Meal was held at The Tom Cobley out at Spreyton: Once again we visited this favorite pub for our March meal, 18 members assembled at 12:00 for a drink and talk before being served our various meals which ranged from half a duck through Fish pies, Lasagne, Vegetarian cobbler, to the old standard Ham Eggs and chips. Everybody had a good time eating and talking and most of us also found room for a selection of deserts or coffee,
The Second meal was held at the London Inn out at Morchard Bishop. As always the pub proved a very popular selection with the group, We all had the usual very filling meal supplied by this venue so much so that many of us left with "doggie Bags" of food as some could not eat all the supplied food. For those of us who could still manage to eat the deserts also proved very popular (albeit that some were shared !).
The first meal of the year was held at "The Stables" out at Cowley on Friday 31stJan, usually a popular pub for eating out that we have visited many times in the past and never been disappointed with the meals. Regretfully this time was a disappointment. The pub seems to be in the middle of a change of ownership and the food side of the business was somewhat chaotic. Firstly the advertised "Carvery" that several of us had booked was not operating and we were told that it had not proved profitable so had been discontinued. They did however serve a plated roast meal which was actually quite good with all parts well cooked. The other options on the menu were still available and were quite good. It was obvious however that the pub was short staffed.
