Format of meetings

Meetings will last around 2 hours.

Music played will be largely from the classical repertoire but include ballet music, grand opera & operetta and choral works. Excerpts will be up to a symphony/concerto movement in length and time will be made to discuss each one.

Between us we have many musical CD’s. We have membership of Apple music which has a catalogue of many performances of most classical works.

The way sessions run will very much be an evolving process – themes could be for example martial music, music descriptive of water, humorous music or the music of a single composer.

Choice of music for each session will be by rota (so that members not able to host meetings get their turn).

It was decided that we were logistically restricted (there is no public space with suitable equipment) to meeting in those of each others homes which could both accept 9 people & had the necessary recording devices. The initial size of the group would therefore have to be limited to 9 people.

Our next meeting will again be at David and Barbera’s home on 28th April at 2pm. This time David will selecting a range of music that has significance to him.

First meeting March 2025: Our first Music Appreciation group meeting was on Monday 24th March at Daivd and Barbera Greenwood’s home. The theme of the meeting was cello music. We listened to Elgar’s Cello Concerto, Bach’s Cello Suite no1, Boccherini’s Cello Concerto in G Major, G. 480 and finished with The Swan from Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals.
